PM at 'Saama Dharma Charika' revival

"Saama Dharma Charika", the first ever Dhamma reunion tour, will be revived after a lapse of 20 years today (April 21) with its maiden journey from Kiri Vehera, Kataragama to Naga Vihara, Jaffna.

A ceremony in this connection presided over by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be held at 3.00 p.m. today before the procession gets under way. The tour is expected to reach Naga Vihara, Jaffna, in 20 days.

This tour has been organised by Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees, under the patronage of the Mahanayaka Theras of the Three Chapters and conducted by Meegahajandure Gnanaratne Thera, Chief Incumbent of Naga Vihara, Jaffna.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Resettlement, said that this Dhamma reunion was for the conveyance of the pinnacle and sacred objects in procession from Kiri Vehera to Naga Vihara and more than 1,000 Buddhist Bhikkus islandwide are expected to join the tour. Minister of Buddha Sasana W.J.M. Loku Bandara, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse and a large number of ministers are also expected to participate.
