Insurance issue licences to practise
Eagle Insurance Company has issued licences to practise to the first batch of the Eagle sale force, selected among the members of the 'Team With Wings. Having started the process of licensing its sale persons, Eagle Insurance presented licensing certificates at a ceremony held in Colombo with the participation of Dr. Dayanath C. Jayasuriya, the Director General of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka. Licence to practise was issued to sales people after a period of intense training, subject to the successful completion of an examination to assess the knowledge of insurance and related subjects. The company expects all sales persons to go through this process in the coming months. "We are one step ahead of the industry where a licence procedure is likely to be introduced sometime in the future", an Eagle spokesman said. In developed or regulated overseas markets, a person first has to obtain a licence from a local authority before being employed by an insurance company to serve customers as an insurance sales person. Speaking at the presentation of licences, Jayasuriya, said that in the near future, the Board is planning to introduce a minimum educational qualification as a prerequisite to join the insurance sales profession in Sri Lanka. "This would enable customers to secure the best professional advice, he said. Eagle's fist batch of licensed professionals comprised 36 sales persons who have acquired the skills over a period of time to provide professional advice to clients on their financial needs. Prior to their selection to follow a special licensing course, the period of service and professional competency of these members of the 'Team with Wings' were taken into account, Eagle spokesman said. "Our vision is to build a world class team of professionals who are competent to provide clients with financial advice of the highest standard. In order to achieve this goal, we have developed the licensing course to equip the sale force with the necessary knowledge to perform that task, and we want all our sales persons to qualify through this certification process within the next 12 months," he added. Eagle Insurance is the first company outside the UK to have its in-company training recognised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK. Eagle has regular training programmes for its sale persons and had sent the highest number of sales persons to attend international training programmes. The company is a part of the global insurance giant Zurich Financial Services. |
