Appointed country partner for B2B web portal

Asian Vendors Inc. has announced the appointment of E-Point (Pvt.) Ltd. (formerly Lanka Super Pages (Pvt.) Ltd. as its country partner for Sri Lanka. This follows the initial Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties in September 2000.

Asian Vendors is a Business-to-Business (B2B) web portal, which promotes exports from Asia. Through its international network and alliances, asianvendors.com enables global buyers to connect with exporters in Asia. Based in the USA, Asian Vendors records around 40,000 hits per day and has been rated very high among search engines. It engages in active online and offline promotion with a view to keeping the portal updated to the last minute.

Prospective businesses can place their catalogues on the website for a fee and join more than 5000 online businesses who have done the same. This includes several catalogues by Sri Lankan businesses as well.

Asian Vendors Inc. Vice Chairman Ramesh Guptha who was in Colombo for the launch said the Asian economy was set for a significant explosion in trade with the lowering of barriers worldwide. "By serving as an infomediary, getting buyers and sellers together and by providing authentic and updated information, Asian Vendors provides a reliable global platform for this market to grow," Guptha said.

Economic Reform, Science and Technology Minister Milinda Moragoda, who was chief guest, was of the view that the role of a government was more as that of a facilitator and a catalyst, crating an enabling environment for such business interactions, rather than getting actively involved in the process.

Asian Vendors has partnered with leading yellow pages and database companies in eight Asian countries and works closely with the export promotion councils of these countries.

With E-Point (Pvt) Ltd. being appointed country partner for Asian Vendors, Sri Lanka now join a club comprising India, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Macau.

E-Point is a joint venture between DLPL Yellow Pages and Itmin. Managed by DLPL, its current board comprises Lt. Gen. Denis Perera (Chairman), Errol Perera, Tissa Jayaweera, Suresh Fernandez and Dhammika Jayawardena.
