Solar centre in Ruwanwella

Shell Renewables Lanka Limited (SRLL), the provider of solar home systems to unelectrified rural Sri Lanka, opened its 17th Solar Centre in Ruwanwella in the Kegalle District recently. This solar centre will serve customers in the Kegalle and Ratnapura districts and rural areas of the Colombo district.

Shell Renewables, the solar business of the Shell Companies in Sri Lanka, has recorded growth, in only its second year of operation, and has been recognised as a benchmark company within the rural solar industry worldwide.

SRLL installed over 5,400 systems out of around 10,000 systems installed island-wide in 2001 and has plans to install over 10,000 systems this year. In its efforts to serve customers better, Shell Renewables has set up 17 solar centres island-wide, spanning areas from Anuradhapura to Embilipitiya.

With growing government support for solar as an alternative to more costly grid extension, the prospects for Shell in Sri Lanka and solar as an alternative for grid electricity are very bright. Solar power is also one of the most eco-friendly energy alternatives in the world providing clean and efficient power.
