Silver Jubilee celebration of Episcopal Ordination on Tuesday The Silver Jubilee celebration of the Episcopal Ordination of Rt. Rev. Dr. Nicholas Marcus Fernando, the Archbishop of Colombo will commence at 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at St. Lucia's Cathedral, Kotahena. The Holy Mass of Thanksgiving concelebrated by all the Bishops and the clergy will be the highlight of the day's celebrations which will be attended by the special distinguished invitees and guests along with faithful representing the whole country. His Lordship Fernando ordained a priest of God in Rome on December 20, 1959 at the age of 27, by Cardinal Agagiamian was elected an Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo by Paul VI on May 2, 1977 with succession to His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Cooray OMI, the then Archbishop of Colombo who officiated his Episcopal Ordination held in Colombo. He is the 7th Archbishop of Colombo and the first Diocesan priest to have succeeded those archbishops who adorned the See of Colombo diocese. He was 44 years old at the time of his election. His Lordship Fernando will be felicitated by the parishioners of Grand Street Parish on Sunday, May 19 and on May 20, he will grace the finals of the Silver Jubilee Basket Ball Tournament and join the Presbyterial family Fellowship at St. Aloysius Seminary Grounds. Interior Minister John Amaratunga will accord a Civil Reception to His Lordship at the BMICH on May 24 at 7.00 p.m. with the participation of the special invitees to the occasion. (WIRUMA) |
