Three boys and three girls have been picked to represent the country at the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Federation Cup tennis events to be staged in Malaysia from May 20 to 26 and Indonesia from May 13 to 19 respectively.

The girls side left last Friday (May 10) for Jakarta and comprised Vindya Dayananda, Maheesha Seneviratne and Jancy Paramanathan with Sanjay Mayadunne as the non-playing captain. Mrs. Zerka Welikala too accompanied the girls.

The boys side comprises Harshana Godamanne, Amrith Rupasinghe and Shamalan Sabanathan with Ganendran Subramaniam as the non-playing captain.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SLTA, Boshan Dayaratne said that Sri Lanka will be hosting an International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior (under-18) World Championship for the second time this year at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath in the second week of September.

He said: "The first tournament held in January attracted players from 14 countries, but we expect at least 15 to 20 countries to respond for the tournament in September which is a Group V event of the ITF.

Meanwhile, the Open and Veterans' Hardcourt Championship is to be worked off from May 18 to 24 at the National Tennis Centre (NTC), while the Junior Hardcourt Championship is scheduled for May 24 to June 3. The Colombo Championship too, is down for June and the National Championship in July.
