Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Ignatius T. Canagaretnam has been re-elected as a member of the Asian Basketball Confederation Central Board for a third consecutive term beginning year 2003 to 2006 at the annual general meeting of the Asian Confederation held in Malaysia.

Canagaratnam is presently a Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation, having served the federation as President in 1994, 1995, 1997 and 1998 and served as Vice-President since then.

Earlier on in July 2000, he was awarded the 'Special Recognition Award' for his contribution to the Asian Basketball Confederation since 1995.
