SLRFU requests 7,500 Sterling Pounds from IRB for postponement

The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) have requested from the International Rugby Board (IRB) for 7,500 Sterling Pounds as re-imbursement for the postponed Rugby World Cup (Asia qualifying) game with China which Sri Lnaka won 9-7 in Colombo.

The President of the SLRFU, Commodore Harsha Mayadunne, said that the game with China was first scheduled to have been played in March, but finally played on April 21 as China were unable to get their travel documents in time. Details of the expenses have been sent to the IRB and the SLRFU are awaiting a response.

He further said that Sri Lanka will compete in the 7's as well as in the 15-a-side at the Asian Games to be staged in South Korea from September 29 to October 15 and that the SLRFU have informed the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka on this subject. The SLRFU will send a squad of 10 to 12 players for the 7's and 25 players for the 15-a-side event.

Sri Lanka will also compete at the Asian Championship (Asiad) at Bangkok, Thailand from November 2 to 9.

Further, some 'A' Division clubs have requested the SLRFU to release a few players from the Development Squad to represent their clubs in the current Caltex League Championship. (L.G.)
