Chopra and Ghandir with double centuries stand help India 'A' to 316/2
by Ranjan Anandappa Openers Akash Chopra (144 n.o) and Gautham Ghandir ( 105) put on 252 runs for the opening wicket as India 'A' amassed a healthy first day total of 316 for 2 wickets in their opening three day game against a Cricket Board Development Squad XI at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama Stadium yesterday. The Indians after winning the toss got the maximum of the typical slow pitch and the inexperienced Development Squad bowlers, the opening batsmen Chopra and Ghandir batted with increasing confidence facing 71.4 overs racing towards centuries. Chopra who reached the three figure mark first batted the whole day facing 269 balls and striking 17 fours in his unbeaten 144 while Gandhir faced 227 balls with nine fours before he was caught at point off Ganganath Rathnayake for 105 when he stepped out to drive. Ratnayake the off-spinner, was the pick of the bowlers taking both the wickets to fall for 52 runs on a day where the bowlers had to toil hard. When play ended on the first day, skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar was unbeaten on 25 with Chopra. INDIA 'A' 1ST INNINGS |
