Colombo Port attracts new service

The Port of Colombo has attracted a new service launched by Delmas/Mitsui OSK lines and P & O Nedlloyd with eight callers per month plying between Asia and East Africa.

The new service branded EAX (East Africa, Asia Express) will offer fixed day weekly direct services between Port Kelang, Singapore, Colombo, Mombasa, Tanga, Dar es Salaam and Cochin.

The service will also provide fortnightly direct coverage of Seychelles and Maldives. Five geared vessels will be deployed with P & O Nedlloyd and Mitsui OSK each providing two vessels and Delma one, a news release said.

The new EAX service will provide connections between Asia and East Africa, using Singapore, Port Kelang and Colombo as transshipment hubs to and from other Asian ports.

The first EAX sailing Delmas Kenya was to arrive in Colombo on May 24.
