PM's aircraft in emergency-landing drama The aircraft carrying Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made an emergency landing in Dubai Saturday following engine trouble, his office here said. The Airbus A-340 aircraft belonging to SriLankan Airlines, which is partly owned and fully managed by Emirates of Dubai, was unable to make the full journey from Colombo to London because of the engine problem, officials said. Wickremesinghe was transferred to another flight, to Zurich. He had left Colombo early Saturday for a five-day visit to Belgium and Britain to drum up support for a Norwegian-backed peace bid in the island. He is due to hold talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and the European Union President Romano Prodi. There was no immediate comment from SriLankan Airlines on the incident. Two weeks ago another SriLankan Airlines plane made an emergency landing at the international airport in Colombo after pilots reported an engine malfunction. (AFP) |
