nab two in heroin deal
by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officials acting on a tip-off arrested two persons in Peliyagoda area last Wednesday following the discovery of 1.4 kilograms of heroin in their possession. The consignment of heroin has a street value of more than Rs 2 million, PNB sources told the Sunday Observer. The two men believed to be couriers were nabbed while waiting at a spot near a popular hotel in the Peliyagoda area. They had been there to meet another drug dealer to hand over the heroin for distribution, Police said. Police, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a businessman from Kandana area who has masterminded the drug racket. The organiser, a dealer in cellular mobile telephones had rented out two houses in the Kandana area for the drug operation and had vanished after the arrest of the two couriers. The two suspects have been remanded till investigations have been completed, police said.The total quantity of heroin seized from March to May this year is 22.6 kilograms.
