Dharmasala in Perth

A dharmasala for the Buddhist temple in Perth was opened by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Australia Major General Janaka Perera recently when he has invited to visit Western Australia by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Alexander Downer to take part in a familiarisation programme for Heads of Missions.

General Perera met a large number of Sri Lankan expatriates and, business leaders, who are keen to help in further strengthening the ties between Sri Lanka and Australia in trade, investment, sporting and cultural interchange. He also participated at the Sinhala-Hindu New Year celebrations organised by the Sri Lankan Society of Western Australia. The hononrary Consul for Sri Lanka in WA, Mr Frank Crawley and Mrs Crawley hosted a reception for the High Commissioner and Mrs Perera.

Key changes in the armed forces

Key changes in the armed forces have been made last week. According to the new posting order Captain Jayanath Colombage has been appointed Deputy Area Commander South. Captains Jayantha Perera Deputy Director Welfare, Ruwan Dias Commanding Officer SLNS Sayura, S.M.B. Weerasekara Commandant Naval Maritime Academy, Damayantha Dharmasiriwardena Commanding Officer Tissa, Kithsiri Weerakoon Deputy Area Commander North Central Command are the other new appointments.

Meanwhile, Major General Shantha Kottegoda has been appointed as the President Army Buddhist Council which was held by Major General Neil Dias until his retirement on April 13.

Vesak Bhakthi Geetha by HNB
