Alliance to promote small business computer applications The information technology divisions of the Industrial Services Bureau (ISB) and Vanik Incorporation Ltd. will promote computer software applications to small business enterprises, in order to improve office productivity and management efficiency. Both institutions have so far developed application software for private (trading and manufacturing) and public institutions on inventory control, accounts management, salaries and wages administration and human resource management. The ISB-Vanik alliance will make these products available to the business community in Wayamba through ISB and Vanik branch offices islandwide. The targeted small industry segments will initially be trading (wholesale and retail), manufacturing (small and medium garments sector, tea, desiccated coconut industry) and the services sector where up-to-date product and clients information will be helpful for the management. The alliance will also have the capability to develop tailor-made business applications depending on specific customer requirements. The service package offered by the alliance will provide total solutions from system analysis to after installation support. While Vanik is expected to handle core design works, the ISB will take over of the provision of support services such as operator training, data management, emergency recovery and trouble shooting on site. A session to make the business community of the Wayamba Region aware of these services was held last week. The Industrial Services Bureau recently expanded its services in scope and area and upgraded its IT infrastructure with the assistance of the Enterprise Information Project. Apart from software development activities, ISB provides other services such as web page designing with web hosting and web browsing for its clients. It has strategic partnerships with many organisations both public and private as well as NGOs. |
