Sri Lanka promotion in Taiwan

A six-month long Sri Lanka promotion is now being conducted in Kaoshsiung, Taiwan.

The promotion in February on Chinese New Year day will go on till mid August this year. A cultural presentation of Sri Lankan dances and also an exhibition of local handicrafts is being held.

Tilak Fernando, Manager of the Group, said that the 'Gini Sisila' and the 'Raban' dance where a single dancer spins 10 rabanas.

The Sri Lankan dancers perform daily at the Great World International Village which is a theme park spread over an area of over 100 acres alongside troupe from Ukraine, Mexico, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Russia.

The park authorities have put out 100,000 handouts and a 25,000 four-colour posters for their summer promotion. The Sri Lankan dancers have been given pride of place in the promotion. These have been sent to all travel agencies, universities, high schools, clubs and societies and also department stores and shopping malls.

Tilak Fernando also said that there is great potential for exports such as spices, tea, coir products, ornamental fish, plants and handicraft items from Sri Lanka. At present only Sri Lanka tea is marketed in Taiwan.

Since Taiwan has an open economy there would be no problem in creating exports. There is also a demand for skilled labour, specially to man fishing vessels and in the construction field.
