Diliup shares music knowledge with youth

Diliup Gabadamudalige who started using computers and MIDI in his music as far back as 1983, was one of the pioneer pianist/keyboardists to introduce the 'One Man Band' concept into the Sri Lankan music industry. A Golden Clef Award winner and now also the Music Director/Chief Music Producer at Young Asia Television (Ya-TV) Diliup recognising the need for the younger generation to acquire a professional knowledge in the field of Computer music and Computer based recording systems has established The Institute of Computer Music Technology the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. He spent these past years during his lecture demonstrations at Universities and Exhibitions putting together the course material.

The course is a three months one in three parts, and each part can be followed separately. There's the MIDI theory, General MIDI, MIDI applications, introduction to MIDI sequencing and MIDI developments in the first part of the course. While the second part relates to Analog and Digital synthesis, Computer based Sound synthesis, Digital sampling and music production with samples. The third part is beneficial to up and coming musicians for it offers Computer based Home Music Production, Hardware and Software and the general usage of these in recordings. What is advantageous according to Diliup is that an aspiring young musician/composer does not require previous knowledge of computers or music. Nor need you have a playing knowledge of a musical instrument like the piano or organ, for with this music technology you can compose music in no time.

Following the success of his first original music CD titled 'Newfrontier' Diliup Gabadamudalige released his follow-up album 'Evolution' this year. His creative music work for singers, musicians and dance groups is extensive and popular and furthermore he has scored for many films and musical productions staged in Sri Lanka.

Diliup Gabada (as we fondly term him) has to be congratulated for taking a positive step towards the uplift of our music industry for the future, by creating this opportunity for the younger generation who undoubtedly will be tomorrow's leading musicians.
