Mangala summoned to CID by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE The former Minister Mangala Samaraweera will be summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 18 to be questioned in connection with the shooting incident where several supporters of Deputy Minister Sagala Ratnayake were injured seriously last November, CID sources told the Sunday Observer. Meanwhile the CID is investigating how four officers from the Presidential Security Division (PSD) present at the time of the shooting incident in Akuressa along with officers from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD). Usually officers from the (PSD) are assigned to give protection to the President, sources said. The shooting incident took place in Akuressa area when Minister Mangala Samaraweera was being escorted by MSD and PSD officers in several motorcades. Security officers from both MSD and PSD are alleged to have opened fire on Minister, Sagala Ratnayake supporters causing serious injury to one person. Several other persons who sustained injuries in the attack were warded at the Matara hospital. |
