Victor passes away Victor Gunawardena, one of the best journalists in the country passed away suddenly at the age of 74. He was cremated yesterday. After his graduation with Honours in English from the Colombo University, he started his career in journalism with the 'Outlook' magazine and in the late fifties joined the now defunct 'Times of Ceylon' and ended his tenure as Acting Editor of the 'Sunday Times' after serving the 'Times' for nearly 25 years. His love for journalism made him take up the post of Director of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute for Journalism. Victor was also Editor at the Marga Institute and conducted several seminars for the benefit of journalists. He also taught journalism at Aquinas. At the time of his death he was a consultant at the Presidential Media Unit. His demise is a great loss to journalism. |
