Champion rider Raja Perera dies Motor Racing and Motor Cycle racing in particular mourns the death of all-Ceylon and All-India racing rider Raja Perera who died on Friday. He dominated the motor cycle racing scene in the 1970s. The funeral of Raja Perera will take place today at 4 p.m. at the General Cemetery, Kanatte. 'Raja' as he was popularly known to all motor cycle racing fans, was an active member of the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club and has participated in all race meets during 1969-70 and early eighties. He has won over 100 trophies and was a treat to watch on the race track with his fine riding. He was one of the few riders who represented Sri Lanka at the All-India motor races in 1970s and has won many events as well as the Open Grand Prix. He leaves behind his wife and three children, one of them - Nihal Perera is also a well known rider who has followed his father's footsteps. |
