More services from Telecom

Sri Lanka Telecom Limited (SLT) has launched its Intranet.

The Intranet, with an investment of more than Rs. 30 million brings SLT an advanced network infrastructure and application which would not only improve the productivity of employees, but also the customer and supplier relationships.

BC Software Systems (Pvt.) Ltd (BCSSL), a subsidiary of BC Computers Ltd. and a member of the Bartleet Group of Companies, was the systems integrator for the project. To establish a reliable infrastructure, BCSSL had brought products from companies such as Cisco Systems Inc, Compaq Inc, Molex Premise Networks and Computer Associates. Meanwhile Sri Lanka Telecom has signed an agreement with the Indian National Satellite System (INSAT), which is a multi-purpose satellite system for Telecommunications, television broadcasting, meteorology and search and rescue.

INSAT is operated at the Department of Space of the government of India. As per the agreement, SLT is authorised to access these satellites. SLT's digital satellite TV services will be provided at a low satellite cost for the TV broadcasters. SLT has established close relationships with INSAT and the Indian Space Research Organisation, which will enable SLT to obtain the INSAT satellite capacity for various satellite-related services.

VSAT network connectivity, radio networking, telemedicine, distant education, direct to home TV services, meteorology applications and rural telephony services are some of the services SLT plans to provide directly or through a service provider, based on capabilities acquired by the new agreement.
