'Keyboard Fiesta' with Beverley

There's no business like show business....and Broadway melodies will continue to hold a special niche in the hearts of music lovers despite the heady excitement of techno and rap. So this time on Sunday July 7, the popular pianist Beverley Rodrigo will be in concert in the presentation 'Keyboard Fiesta' which will be staged at the Bishop's College Auditorium, produced by Jith Pieris.

Get set for an evening of 'elegant and entertaining music' with Beverley whose repertoire is as elastic as elastic can be. "The program for the show will fall into four segments with guest artistes" reveals Beverley when we were able to get through to him.

"The opening segment will be one with me in focus playing in my inimitable style the semi-classics with a touch of the swing, which fondly earned me the title 'King of Swing.' Then the second segment moves into an Eastern theme with Nesan Thiyagarajah on the Mirudangam and gadam.

The other two sections will be a Latin one and a section on show tunes. In both these segments I will be accompanied by Priya Goonetilleke on drums and Drucille G on bass guitar, both members of the dance band Pearl. Of course my guest artistes for the show tunes will be the popular vocalists Penny Ferdinand, Shanelle Fernando and Ally Fryer. That's not all.

Shanelle, Jith and Penny

My old friend of Little Hut days Aruna Siriwadhana will sit on the drum stool to make a special guest appearance and rapport with me over tunes that are now perennial."

'Keyboard Fiesta' is a must in your diary - a concert which spotlights the many facets of pianist Beverley Rodrigo be it as a solo pianist or as an accompanist. It is a celebration of his many successful years in showbusines a happening that endorses that there's no business like show business. How true!
