Modernising school laboratories The Ministry of Education has taken action to modernise and regularise school laboratories as the ministry had detected that laboratory equipment supplied to some schools in the island are nearly 30 years old and reported to be perishing, without proper use, Minister Suranimala Rajapakse said. The destruction of these resources acquired at a cost of billions of rupees for the education of children is the result of the lack of proper administration and management of the previous regime. A large quantity of chemicals unsuitable for use were also found in addition to the equipment. The government will be called upon to incur a colossal expenditure in order to destroy these items. Education Minister Suranimala Rajapakse said that it was essential to regularise laboratory education in Sri Lanka to suit modern needs. Some school children have developed respiratory diseases as many laboratories are not suitable for educational purposes. The minister has requested teachers and parents to supply information regarding such laboratories to him. |
