Netherlands to screen top seven movies Sri Lankans, crazy of best foreign films will get an opportunity once more to watch seven best films from Netherlands, with the screening of "The Discovery of Heaven" directed by Jeroen Krabbe, based on the best selling novel of the famous Dutch author Harry Mulisch, at the Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana. The screening of the film on July 6 at 6.00 pm, will launch the Netherlands Film Festival, this year, which will go on till July 12. Human Resource, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Karunasena Kodithuwakku will inaugurate the festival. The Festival is organised by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in association with Winson Films International and the Sri Lanka Film Critics and Journalists Forum to commemorate the 400 years bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Royal Netherlands. The films scheduled to screen during the week free of charge include " I Love You Too by Ruud Van Hermert (97 minutes); Baby Blue by Theo Van Gogh; With Great Joy by Lodewijk Grijns-(90 minutes); Friendship by Nouchka Brakel (117 minutes); The Cave by Martin Koolhoven (90 minutes-Golden Calf,best Director - 2001) and Leak by Jean van de Velde. Meeting the media at her residence, the Royal Netherlands ambassador Ms. Susan Blankhart said that the festival will present some of the best films produced which will give a glimpse of the life and the times of the people of her country. "We are happy that we have been able to present to you for the second time some of the best films of my country to mark the 400 anniversary of the relationship the two countries enjoy begun in the 1602". She said that she respected the decision of the board viewing the films which were shown in many parts of the world at festivals and were well received. The first Netherlands film festival was shown in the year 2000 and Mr. Ranjith Perera Managing Director Winson Films was responsible in organising that festival. The film festival this year sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Embassy and also has the support of several leading business enterprises operating in the country. On Monday July 8, at 4.00 pm the Film Critics and Journalists Forum will conduct a seminar on film industry at the Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana, which is open to the public. |
