The Ceylonese Rugby and Football Club withstood a fierce challenge from the Colombo Hockey and Football Club to win by 19 points (two goals, one try) to 14 (two goals) in their Caltex 'A' Division League rugby match played at Longden Place on Friday after trailing 12-14 at the breather.

In the 17th minute CH won a five metre line out and slipped out the ball to their New Zealand coach Matt Lee (who played as fly half) who powered his way to touch down mid right. Nalin Dissanayake converted to make it 14-0.

The Red Shirts reduced the deficit in the 21th minute when off a five metre short tap flanker Pavithra Fernando crashed through for a try mid left. Roshan Peiris missed the conversion.
