INTRAD 2002 to showcase Sri Lanka's export products Between 150 and 200 stalls displaying products and services from local and foreign companies are expected for INTRAD 2002, the export exhibition and investor forum, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. The fifth in the series of exhibitions, it will be held at the BMICH from September 4 to 6. Chairman of the INTRAD Organising Committee Asoka de Z. Gunasekera told a recent news conference held in Colombo to launch the event, that with the peace initiatives firmly in place, INTRAD 2002 is the right exhibition at the right time. "We decided to organise the exhibition and invite buyers from all over the world to boost exports from the island, after last year's downturn in the economy. It is an opportunity for our exporters to expand their market and build brand names," he said. INTRAD 2002 focuses on Sri Lanka's export products in 14 sectors - apparel and textiles; ayurvedic, herbal, health and beauty care products; ceramics and porcelain; coconut-based products; cut flowers and foliage; furniture and wood products; gems and jewellery; handicraft, toys and gift items; leather and leather products; ornamental fish; rubber products; spices and essential oils; tea; and machinery, services and technology that support these industries. Concurrent to the exhibition is the Investor Forum. It will highlight to the investors, investment opportunities in three selected areas - tourism, infrastructure development and information and communication technology. This will be held at the BMICH on September 4 and 5. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs; Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion; Tourism; and Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Export Development Board, Board of Investment, Ceylon Tea Board and Department of Commerce will be involved in the event. SriLankan Airlines and Taj Samudra Hotel will be the sponsors. |
