Indian art show here - first time An art exhibition by young contemporary Indian painters and sculptors titled "Gangcey 13" is now being held for the first time in Sri Lanka from July 6 to 8 at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery. The creations of these Indian artists from different schools of art will be on display at this exhibition with their novel styles. A distinctive feature of this group of artists is that they hail from diverse parts of India and have been educated at different art universities such as Vishwabharathi University (Shanthi Niketan), M.S. University - Baroda, Delhi College of Art, College of Art- Calcutta and Jamia - Milia University - New Delhi. All thirteen with Masters Degree in Fine Arts are practising artists and their creative work has been inspired by traditional, modern and post-modern styles. The exhibition was organised by a group of young Sri Lankan artists known as "Gangcey". "The knowledge and understanding derived from collective dialogue is indeed vital and, as an initial step, we have arranged this exhibition and invited the Indian artists to visit Sri Lanka. But for some reason or other they are unable to come. However, this will be a good opportunity for young Sri Lankan artists to have a dialogue among themselves and understand the artistic values and usages of the country closest to us", said the group Gangcey. This exhibition will also be held in Kandy at the Alliance Francais from July 12 to 15. |
