Int'l sports company opens Colombo outlet Sports and fitness company Reebok International Ltd., launched its Sri Lanka operations by opening its first retail outlet in Colombo recently. Reebok India has appointed The Cricket Shop (Pvt) Ltd., a supplier of cricket material, as the sole licensee for Reebok products in Sri Lanka. Reebok, headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts, is a worldwide designer, marketer and distributor of sports, fitness and casual footwear, apparel and equipment. Sales for 2001 totalled US$ 3 billion.Reebok International's brands include Reebok, Rockport, Weebok, Greg Norman and Ralph Lauren Footwear. Reebok which started in 1895 in Bolton, England, began operating in the US in 1979 and began aggressive international expansion in the late 1980s. Today, its products are sold in more than 170 countries. Reebok India was set up as a direct subsidiary in 1995 to expand the company's presence in the SAARC nations. In a few years, it has cornered 55 per cent of the organised sports and fitness market in India. |
