Golden Sun : a dream holiday in a tropical paradise by Beverley Jansz A holiday of dreams in a tropical paradise by the sea is what Golden Sun Resort, Kalutara offers.
Just 37 km. from Colombo, the 4-star resort consists of 100 deluxe rooms with facilities second to none of a 5-star hotel anywhere in the world. All 100 rooms, inclusive of 32 cabanas, are ultra modern beach front rooms open to a fantastic view of the timeless Indian Ocean horizons. When I visited the Golden Sun Resort last week, I found it a contemporary hotel with a marvellous sea view and superior facilities. From the time we stepped in we were ushered into a whole new world of fulfilled holiday and magical moments in a serene township of Kalutara. "Waves Restaurant" serves up the culinary delight prepared by executive chef Arosha Jayasinghe and his team of expert chefs from around the world, at the beautifully laid out main restaurant where service matches the ambience. Guests are treated to a gourmet meal, lunch or just a bite and a delicious thirst quencher at the "C-Green Restaurant:. "The Bluesz" bar is an enchanting place to soothe your soul, or just relax at the garden and pool bar. The active guest, could choose from frolicking on the beach or taking a swim in the Golden Sun's outdoor pool. Luxuriate in its built-in Jacuzzi, or watch your children frolic in the baby pool. When guests prefer to take things easy, they are offered a pre-supper game of tennis under floodlights, or a game of draughts, carrom, darts, chess, pool and a host of other indoor games. The Sun Power Centre at the resort is a fully equipped gymanisium for the strenuous, sauna, steam and massage. For those who prefer to take a tour of the area the resort offers visits to the fabulous fardens of Beviz Bawa, or an experience of the poetic beauty of the waterfalls of Thudugalla, a peaceful river safari on the Kalu Ganga and thrills of a fisherman's haul with the "Fisherman's Joy". The architecture of the Golden Sun Resort is marvellous. It has been built in such a manner that all 100 deluxe rooms are 'beach front rooms' open to a fantastic view of the blue waters and the golden sunrise and sun set. The resort also provides the ideal ambience for wedding ceremonies with an exotic touch. Facilities for conferences, conventions and seminars include state-of-the-art audio visual and secretarial services. The Golden Sun Resort provides all rooms with built-in room safe, mini bar, hair dryers. MATV with satellite channels, in-house video and music, tea-coffee making facilities for the cabanas, 24 hour room service, doctor on call, laundry, valet services, IDD facilities and a shopping arcade. Worldwide guests of JMC, a leading tour operating company based in UK and owned by Thomas Cook, had selected Golden Sun Resort as a 'Highly Commended' hotel for its operation for the year 2001. The survey carried out by JMC had selected 32 hotels around the world to receive this prestigious award in the category of 'Long Haul Operation'.A significant feature of this award is that Golden Sun Resort was successful in winning this award in the first year of operation with the particular tour operator. General Manager, Upul Gamage who has been at the resort from the time of its construction said that the future plans of the resort were opening of a discotheque offering "all-inclusive" packages to selected groups of tourists, and increasing the present banquet facilities of 180 to 300. The staff at Golden Sun from Upul Gamage right down to the humble room boy is customer satisfaction oriented. We found the whole atmosphere at the resort wonderful. The Golden Sun Resort is owned by Yenom Holding of Singapore. The Chairman is Goh Cheng Liang. The resort is managed by Aitken Spence Hotel Management Ltd. |
