Eight swimmers reach qualifying standard

Eight swimmers reached the qualifying standard set for Asian Age Group Championships by NAASU at the recently concluded Age Group Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool. The championships was the final trial to pick swimmers and divers to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Age Group swimming and diving championships to be held from August 21 to 25 in the City of Zuhau, China.

The swimmers who qualified are: Raghvan Madawala (S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia), Dharshaka Tennakoon (Ananda), Sampath Weerakkody (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda), Kalyan Veera (St. Thomas' College, Kotte), Menaka de Silva (St. Bridget's Convent), Uma Kavya Dharmadasa (Musaeus College), Mihiri Kandanarachchi (Mahamaya College, Kandy), Chathuri Abeykoon (Ladies College).

According to a senior official of NAASU, the divers failed to reach the points set by NAASU on 3 metres spring board diving and platform diving.

However, one metre spring board diving event for both boys and girls will be held today (Sunday) at the Royal College swimming pool commencing at 3 p.m. The performances of the divers will be taken into account.
