Sean shines in Scotland

by Pelham Juriansz

Sixteen year old Sri Lankan Sean Weeraratna, a resident of Scotland, has been chosen to represent Scotland in the Under 19 team. This is a unique achievement for a player of his age, as Sean will be still eligible to play for another three years. His father Tino and grandfather Gerry Weeraratna (both Thomians) played cricket as well.

Sean's ambition is to be a full-time cricketer having obtained laurels at the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age group levels.

Already the talent scouts are beginning to take note of this young prodigy who notched a career best 95 not out for the East District Under 19 against West District this season, and was unbeaten on 58 a few weeks later.

Sean, who is an allrounder in the true sense of the word, also captured five wickets during a devastating six-over spell which cost a mere six runs, with best bowling figures of eight for 12 in 5.1 overs.

Young Sean hopes to sign a contract which would secure him a place in the Scotland team in the near future.
