University of Colombo win Regatta by 24 points to 16 by LESLIE FERNANDO University of Colombo oarsmen raced through the water in perfect style to emerge champions defeating Royal College by 24 points to 16 at the first Inter Institutional Regatta organised by the Royal College Rowing Club and held on the Beira Lake yesterday. The champions - University of Colombo was awarded the B. C. Perera Memorial Trophy. The meet was a warm up for the inter-University Regatta to be held next week and the Royal-Thomian Regatta to be held on October 26. University of Colombo won the 'B' Fours, 'B' Pairs and the Boat Race 'A' Fours while Royal took the 'A' Pair, 'A' Sculls, 'B' Sculls and the 'C' Pairs (no points). The main race of the day the Boat Race was keenly contested with both the University of Colombo and Royal College oarsmen putting up a stout hearted display. University of Colombo pulled off a close win defeating the Royalists by 2 seconds. University of Colombo oarsmen were Bandula Ratnasekera (B), Akila Kumarasiri (2), Kishan Gunaratne (3), Imantha de Silva (S), Navinda Kottage (cox) and the Royal side - Aquil Sulaiman (B), Niranjan Gajendradas (2), Anusha Selvaraja (3), Thilan Jayatilaka (S), Ravi Vishvakula (cox). Time taken by University of Colombo 4.2.44 secs. Museaus College oarswomen fared prominently winning all four events against the University of Colombo oarswomen. They won the 'B' Pairs, Ladies Fours 'A' Pairs and the Ladies Sculls. |
