Nine years as a DJ at the Blue Elephant, Hilton Colombo DJ Harith Manager Blue Elephant as well enjoys mixing his grooves to a regular band of dancers who fall into freak out on his music. He thrives on a musical fodder of reggae and raga. Away from the console its Club sandwiches and Chinese food! A product of S. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia Harith played rugby for college and was a conscientious Senior Scout. He enjoys being alone at home away from the madding crowd sipping a long cool drink and watching TV... Name: DJ Harith (Harith Kotandeniya Manager Blue Elephant) Trendy outfits: Yes. But not loud outfits. I prefer to wear suits but off duty its T-shirts and shorts for me. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be and why: I'd like to change my temper. Be more cool so that my quick reaction won't hurt people. Fave. music: Reggae. I'm an out and out Bob Marley fan from the days of my youth. At home its nothing but reggae, selective tracks! Fave. song of 1990 - Mr. Lover Man - Shabba Rank. Embarrassing day: It was the day I was DJing alone at the Blue Elephant. It was a pre-poya night and the floor was packed, when suddenly the entire sound system packed up and I had to close down for the evening. The crowd was disappointed and started to hoot and jeer at me. I ran away to the pantry and hid! Qualities you like in a girl: She should be understanding and independent able to manage on her own. What's your meaning of life: To be fair and equal to everybody which does not happen in Sri Lanka. If I could contribute towards this then living would be happiness. What would you have liked to have been in a past life: I would have liked to have been a fish. I love the sea and I can wait for hours in the water. Which character would you like to play in a film: An underground villain who is ruthless and calculating. What would be your greatest achievement in life: To be a General Manager of a chain of hotels. What magazines do you make it a point to read: Time, Newsweek and Readers' Digest. Who do you admire in life: I don't think I will achieve what my father has done. I admire him tremendously. He is retired and in the States now. He wanted me to further my studies. But I didn't. If I had I wouldn't be here today answering your questions! He is an understanding man. What would you do if you ruled the world: Help the poor and reduce the gap between rich and poor. What do you think life will be like in the year 3000: I dread to think of that period. As it is the world is cruel and bad. When 3000 comes around, I don't know what it would be like. When you finish off with work, what keeps you awake at night: Nothing keeps me awake. I sleep no sooner I hit the bed! What's your top tip on becoming a star DJ: Be daring. Play your own music and have an identity. Don't worry about what other's have to say. When you reach 70 years will you Kapila and Naushad still be friends: Undoubtedly. There's no team like KNH. |
