A spidey hero

by Umangi de Mel

"And they say that a hero can save us, I'm not gonna stand here and wait..." Chad Kroeger bellows. But it is a hero that saves the wAorld. Good luck hits America when a lilly livered teen geek who gets kicked around for no particular reason, gets bitten by a genetically altered spider and voila, a hero is born.

"Once bitten, twice shy" But not the neighbourhood spidey. He is once bitten, undergoes immense changes. In the `epic' super hero movie, "Spider-Man" Peter Parker, the average high school student - the sensitive kid from "The Ice Storm" and "The Cider House Rules" the kind that didn't seem to stand a chance with heart throbs like Leo de Caprio or Joshua Hartnet, is finely tuned to shed away the `sensitive' label and has become a web slinger, of the touchstone creation.

Oohs and Aahs followed by dire sighs, often accompany the sight of gorgeous Spidey's ocean blue eyes and cherry red lips. His amazing crawl-the-walls abilities make him want to fool around until a vital part of his life is ripped away mercilessly. (Death of Uncle Ben) The sudden apocalypse of loss, pain and guilt makes him quit the `ring' and become the `hero' on screen through 112 action packed minutes.

No one lives happily ever after, not even in the movie. Spidey goes up against the villains, Mr.Experiment-gone-wrong `Norman Osborn' his friend's tycoon dad. The good Osborn turns into the rotten Green Goblin who wreaks chaos with his glider and er... pumpkin bombs all over the place.

And as for spidey's hopeless crush on the girl next door, MJ (Mary Jane) since the fourth grade... Well the one who dares, shall win the fair..

Except that here, the one who dared couldn't accept his reward.

The red headed beauty (who bears a slight resemblance to Miss Piggy) and her struggle to read between the lines is dished out with the most exotic snog in the trade, yes the ever so famous `upside down kiss' (er.. teens, thou shalt not try the stunt at home) Unlike Lois and Clark or Tarzan and Jane, Spider-Man and Mary Jane won't please the audience to the bone. Spidey, our hunk makes up his mind to leave the sobbing sweetheart behind and move on.....

Best advice - With great power comes great responsibilities (watch out)
Fav. colours - Reds and blues, spiders rule
Greatest ability - Let's spin around babe!
Weakness - Girl next door; one look in her eyes makes you feel strong yet weak, you are exited yet terrified (Aww..)
Enemy - Green Goblin and pumpkin bombs
Fav. sound track - "Hero" - Chad Kroeger ft. J. Scott

Sadistic choices made, spiffy spider jokes snapped, murders and losses, love and hatred..Tobey Maguire, the egghead transformed into a cool spider is flat-out terrific with his piercing gaze and the unabashed intelligence. Thumbs up Sam Raimi and along came a Spider..er..to Majestic Cinema; let's rock on Spidey..
