Buddist Congress hails peace talks It is the national duty of all concerned to support the peace initiatives launched by the United National Front Government, irrespective of race, religion and political differences, a statement issued by the Dhakshina Lanka Buddhist Congress (DLBC), said. President of the DLBC Anagarika Riter Thilakasekera in his statement issued to the press said that whilst both the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) should undertake to safeguard the rights of Tamils and Muslims, special attention should be paid to the plight of the displaced Sri Lankans. Although the leaders of difference political hues have already initiated action to restore the rights of the Tamils and the Muslims, the current peace initiative would not be complete until the rights of the Sinhalese people are guaranteed. The progress achieved by the peace initiative is a source of satisfaction for all of us. However clandestine acts resorted to, by the LTTE pose a serious threat to the future prospects of peace in Sri Lanka. |
