Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Al Haj A.H.M. Azwer has sent a message of congratulations to Professor Abdul Kalam on his election as President of the Republic of India.

The Minister's message is as follows:

"This is the first time in the history of the world that a country has honoured a world-renowned scientist as its head of state. "During my brief encounter with you that day in Chennai, I observed that you are capable of combining spirituality with science, which, the turbulent world of today yearns for."
