SAARC radio music festival at Katmandu

COLOMBO, July 27 (Lankapuvath) - Radio musicians in the SAARC region will have an opportunity to display their talents on an initiative made by the SAARC Audio Visual Exchange Committee, a senior official of the SAARC Secretariat in Katmandu said.

A week-long SAARC radio music festival will be organised in Katmandu, Nepal towards the end of November this year. This was decided at the 20th meeting of SAARC Audio Visual Exchange (SAVE) committee held in Dhaka in February. Radio musicians in SAARC countries including Sri Lanka have been invited to participate in this festival. It will provide them with an ideal opportunity to establish close people-to-people contacts in the region.

The festival will consist of seven programs - one from each member country. The programs which are of 30-minute duration will be broadcast by the national broadcasting agencies of SAARC member countries for seven days starting from November 1. The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation will act as the co-ordination agency for the festival. The SAARC Secretariat said that the festival would help musicians in the region to display their talents among a wider audience.
