Prof. K. M. de Silva wins prestigious award

Prof. K.M. de Silva, a well-known historian is the first Sri Lankan to win the most prestigious academy award presented by the Fukuoka Asian Cultural Board, this year. He will receive his award at a ceremony to be held in Fukuoka City, Japan, in September.

Prof. de Silva has done extensive study on Portuguese, Dutch and British rule in Sri Lanka. His studies on the ethnic conflict between Sinhalese and the Tamils have greatly contributed for the development of the history of the South Asia. He is also the author of the Life and Times of late President J.R.Jayawardene.

Prof. De Silva, one of the four outstanding scholars selected by the Fukuoka Asian Cultural Board. The other three are from China, Australia and Malaysia. A felicitation ceremony in his honour and a seminar will follow on July 16 evening at the J.R.Jayawardene Centre, Colombo.
