China grants Rs. 625m. loan to Sri Lanka

Colombo, August 3 (Lankapuvath) - The People's Republic of China will grant a sum of Rs. 625 million on a concessionary basis to Sri Lanka. Of this amount Rs. 250 million will be an outright grant with the balance repayable in 30 years free of interest, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy said.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Shiak Shuan assured this to Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya who is now on a visit to China as the special envoy of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to strengthen solidarity between the two countries.

The Chinese Foreign Minister said that his government would extend its full support to the peace process and welcomed the changes that had taken place in the country, since the new government came to power in Sri Lanka. He said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's efforts to usher in peace to the country should be successfully carried forward.
