CH beat hapless Havies 25/3

by SRIAN OBEYESEKERE

CH & FC's centre half Lasantha Ediriweera could not have looked for a better timing than a fantastic last minute try on a day he was to later learn he had been drafted into the Sri Lankan Asian Games pool as his Maitland Crescent club swept aside a hapless Havelocks by 25 points (3 tries, goal and penalty) to 3 (penalty) in a Caltex 'A' division second round rugby match yesterday.

Ediriweera ran through seven defenders off a tap to touch down and with fly half Nalin Dissanayake's conversion for the only goal as Havelocks, licking their sixth defeat, scratched to discover a rhythm that kept eluding them.

CH led 5-0 at half time from a try by fly half Saranga Jayakody in the 26th minute. But soon after the turn around CH went into business with Nalin Dissanayake touching down for an unconverted try.

Havelocks sounded the boards with a Tikiri Dissanayake penalty, but CH increased the lead to 15-3 through a try by Rukshan Wijesinghe which was followed by a penalty by Dissanayake.

Then came Ediriweera's solo to seal the game for CH.

Referee: Orville Fernando.
