Stock market closes on positive note The Colombo stock market closed the week's trading positively with both indices registering increases after the crash witnessed earlier. On Friday, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed at 671.2 points while the Milanka Price Index (MPI) closed at 1152.6 points. The day's turnover was Rs 127.7 million. The foreign purchases were Rs 62.4 million while foreign sales amounted to Rs 46.7 million. Though the bourse was very volatile during the week due to the political uncertainty in the country the situation did not impact the foreign investments. The foreign purchases amounted to Rs 145.8 million while foreign sales were Rs 66.7 million during the week. According to analysts, the market movements depended heavily on the day's news following political uncertainty. Individual investors dominated the market during the week, the analysts said.On Monday, the ASPI opened at 687.3 points and closed at 666.9, registering a drop of 20.4 points. The MPI opened at 1182.60 points and closed at 1138.60 registering a drop of 44 points during the day. On Tuesday, the ASPI dipped by 20.4 points to close at 646.50 points while he MPI closed at 1094.60 points. Wednesday saw an improvement with the ASPI and MPI closing at 665 points and 1138.9 points respectively while Thursday again saw a dip with the ASPI and MPI closing at 654.6 points and 1112.8 points respectively. Senior Manager (Marketing and Public Relations) of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) Rajeeva Bandaranaike said that the market has been very volatile this week and was mostly dominated by local investors. |
