New entrants to gas, milk powder markets by Deepal Warnakulasuriya The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs pledged last week to encourage any company which intends to help the Government's development process and bring down the cost of living. Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake made this pledge when he introduced two new entrants to the local gas market and milk powder market early this week. The entrant to the local gas market, Mundo promised to provide better and cheaper services to consumers within one month. Managing Director Mundo A. Wickremanayake said they would introduce a domestic gas cylinder priced between Rs. 325 and Rs. 340. However, he assured that the customer will have to pay only for the gas. "Since we spend below Rs. 200 for a domestic gas cylinder, it will not be a problem to market it at a lower price and this step is taken to support the government's efforts to bring down the cost of living," he added. Puhulyaya, the new entrant to the milk powder market, was also introduced. It will be launched to the market today (11). The product, imported from Australia and packed in Sri Lanka, will be available at all Co-operative Wholesale Establishment outlets at Rs. 96 within a week. |
