PA, JVP to form common program by Deepal Warnakulasuriya People's Alliance and the People's Liberation Front (JVP) yesterday agreed to work together with plans to prepare a concerted national program to solve the country's national and economic problems. Formation of a common program will be prepared by the both party representatives shortly. The decision was taken at the meeting with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and a JVP delegation which took place at the President's House last Friday. Both parties have decided to force the United National Front government to appoint the promised four independent commissions soon. They also agreed to agitate jointly, against any moves to separate the country. The JVP delegation included General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Parliamentarians Wimal Weerawansa and Nandana Gunathilake with senior Parliamentarians Maithripala Sirisena and Nimal Siripala de Silva of the PA. The current situation in the North and East and the peace process were the subjects discussed and both parties agreed to work together as a joint opposition in any issue to maintain the sovereignty of the country. Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna denied answering a question from 'the Sunday Observer' whether they had any agenda to go for a general election together. MP Weerawansa said that they do not believe in bringing a series of bills by the government within a single month. He also said they will not, however, allow the government to bring in any bill which brings extra burden on working people. "We, PA and JVP are on a common purpose," he added. |
