A-15 highway to be re-opened

COLOMBO, Aug. 10 (Lankapuvath) - the Government and the LTTE have made all arrangements to re-open the 132 km A-15 highway between Batticaloa and Trincomalee for the benefit of the people in the area.

An agreement on this was reached between the representatives of the Government and the LTTE at a meeting held in Mutur recently. Trincomalee District UNP MP, A. Mohamed Maharoof and Alisahir Moulana of the Ministry of Plan Implementation and senior officials of the LTTE political wing Tilak and Ruban attended the meeting. The re-opening of the A-15 highway is another step towards restoring transport services between the North and East and the other areas of the country.

Earlier, the United National Front Government took a bold initiative to re-open the A-9 highway connecting Kandy and Jaffna peninsula for public use.

A-5, one of the oldest highways which links the East coast and the central hills of the country was re-opened on a directive issued by the Government and the LTTE. Several military officials and LTTE leaders participated at a ceremony held in that connection.
