Sri Lanka - a bronze by kandy sports correspondentSri Lanka hockey team won a bronze at the second Asian Hockey Federation Championship held in Kowloon in Hong Kong recently. The Secretary of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation, Gamini Jayasinghe told the "Sunday Observer" this was the first a Sri Lankan national hockey team had performed well to clinch the third slot. Sri Lanka beat Oman 3-0, beat Iran and beat Macauw 1-0 and drew with Hong Kong nil-all. Hong Kong had become champion. Sri Lanka could have fared better if not for unexpected losses by narrow margins against Singapore 0-1 and Chinese Taipei 0-1. Hong Kong won the championship title while Singapore finished runners-up. |
