Penchant for sports cars

DJ Thilan a mobile DJ since 1996, is now a regular at Cascades. A product of St. Peter's College he first joined Cascades four years ago and after his return from the States where he went for studies DJ Thilan moved back to the Cascades to mix grooves.

A customer service officer in a mobile communication service he is very much a partying guy who enjoys reading comic cartoon books Tin Tin, Marvel and Astericx and is not a believer in superstitions. What's more he can cook a good dhaal curry dish!

Name: DJ Thilan (Thilan Kannangara)
Birthday: October 18 (make a note girls!)

Status: Single. I'm sort of going out with this girl... then I'm not going out... (Undecided what?!) Fav colour: Black. The ceiling in my room is black, with the walls grey. My bathroom is black and I kinda think black is relaxing and soothing for me.

How about trendy outfits: No, I don't go for trendy outfits. I like casuals.

Hair styles: Its nice for guys who can carry it out. I like tints. I had a blonde tint, even my goatee was blond.

Fav song of all time: Over my Shoulder - Mike and the Mechanics.

What do you feel about playing 'back to back' music at clubs: DJ's should talk but up to a certain extent. In Sri Lanka some of the dancers like uninterrupted music, while some others look forward to the rapport from the DJ. I came back from Chicago recently and there the raga clubs go 'back to back' while the house music clubs operate in the opposite.

Your fav DJ: Paul van Dyke. He is invited to play at night clubs in Australia, England and the States. Fav rap star: Maze

What do you feel about the Elvis Presley hype: I'm not a fan of Elvis. I don't worship singers. I don't understand the fuss about Graceland and how people can worship singers.

If you win a million rupees how would you spend it: I'll modify my old 6 Sri Sports car - it is a Ford Capri. I'll paint it, air condition it. I'll, get a flat for myself. I'm a simple person. Are you a dreamer by nature: Yes - mostly about my car. I'm obsessed with it. (Girls! Girls! this is terrible!) Do you work out daily: I believe in it. But I don't follow it regularly. I focus on it one day - the next day it is out.

Do you like to live dangerously: I'm a cool person. If you mean action, then yes. I need some activity, yet I like to go out on to my roof top, gaze at the skies and relax.

Which product would you like to most endorse: I would like to be associated with a sports car, for example, the Dodge Viper or the Ford Mustang. Or perhaps with a Bank.

What would your ideal girl be: Cute - looks wise. Sweet, personality - outgoing and outspoken. Most of all loving and caring.

Fav cartoon character: Caspar when I was a kid. Pluto too. Today there is a drastic change - X'men.

What makes you happy in life: Little things in life - like hearing 'thank you' or a little tap on the shoulder and hearing that I did a good job.

Do you believe in love at first sight: Yes. I couldn't stop staring at this girl I saw for the first time. I don't know what I felt. I was kinda blank and I wanted to go and sit next to her. If you assume that was love at first sight, then I believe in it.

Does the success of a DJ depend on hype: To a certain extent, yes. The other half is on personal skills - like his personality - the talking he does, and of course the technical side - the mixing of the grooves. The more accurate he is the greater the success.

What do you think life would be like in the year 3000: I've been watching too many science fiction movies and all I'm seeing are flying cars, buildings underground and people wearing silver coloured clothes!!!
