The Golden Jubilee Swimming and Diving Gala was organised by St. Joseph's College recently. The event was held at the St. Joseph's pool, Darley Road. The organising committee was headed by Rev. Fr. Victor Silva, Rector/Principal.
Six teams, two from St. Joseph's College, St. Peter's College, Royal College, Ananda College and S. Thomas' College participated in the boys medley and free style relay events in six age categories and five teams from St. Bridget's Convent, Visakha Vidyalaya, Holy Family Convent, Musaeus College and Mahamaya College, Kandy battled it out for the honours in the two relays in six age groups. The swimmers from St. Joseph's College and Ladies College put up a splendid performances to become overall boys and girls champions respectively and to carry away the two-glittering Golden Jubilee Swimming Championships Trophies. the Josephians with 142 points came on top in the boys, S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, a close second with 139 points and Ananda College third with 128 points. Ladies College with 148 points took the top spot, Mahamaya College Kandy in second place with 132 points and St. Bridget's Convent third with 92 points in the girls relays. Royal College divers did well to emerge diving champions while St. Joseph's College finished runner-up. The past swimming captains of St. Joseph's College and those who represented Sri Lanka were also honoured. In addition to swimming and diving for schools obstacle event, an old boys event, a parent's event and a water ballet were also held. Shabir A. I. Jafferjee and Mrs. Fehmida S. Jafferjee were the chief guests . |
