Thai talks : LTTE team drawn from overseas network The LTTE's delegation to the first round of political negotiations due to be held in Thailand later this month is drawn entirely from the movement's overseas network. While the delegation is led by London-based chief spokesman Dr. Anton Balasingham and will include experts on law and refugee issues, none of the Tiger high command in the Vanni will take part, political sources said. In addition to Dr. Balasingham, the LTTE delegation will comprise Mrs. Adele Balasingham, Dr. Joy Maheswaran and V. Rudrakumar. Dr. Joy Maheswaran who is domiciled in Australia is an advisor on rehabilitation affairs to the LTTE and V. Rudrakumar who is a lawyer will handle the legal issues of the organisation. Mr. Rudrakumar is the son of the former TULF Mayor of Jaffna, Mark Viswanathan. The LTTE delegates are likely to travel to Thailand from London and necessary arrangements have been jointly made by the Norway and Thailand Governments to ensure their security during the period of talks. According to sources the LTTE delegates are in regular contact with the leadership in the Vanni via satellite telephone and the necessary instructions have been given to them on the issues to be tabled at this first round of talks in Thailand. Meanwhile, the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) stalwarts V. Anadasangari, MP, Joseph Pararajasingham MP, R. Sampanthan, MP, and Mavai Senathiraja, MP, who are currently in London will also be briefed by the LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham on the Thai talks, sources said. The Government delegates for the Thai talks are yet to be announced officially. Sources said that the Government side for the Thai talks will be led by Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris, Milinda Moragoda, Rauf Hakeem and the head of the Peace Secretariat Bernard Gunatilleke. |
