Singer sponsors BCCSL talent search in outstations

Singer, Sri Lanka has come forward to sponsor the BCCSL 'Talent Search', a program which is targeted at identifying the most promising under-15 and under-17 cricketers throughout the island outside the Colombo district.

Talent search was launched six months ago with national coaches from the Cricket Operations Department of the BCCSL visiting 12 districts to spot talented youngsters in these age groups through a series of clinics with the assistance of district and provincial coaches and associations. A total of 75-80 batsmen, fast bowlers and spin bowlers were tried out from each district, and a total of 60 under-15 players and 60 under-17 players have been selected.

These players will undergo further trials and a pool of 20 players from each age group will be selected and will participate in three 7-day residential coaching camps during the school holidays from December of 2002. Tryouts for the under-15 players have been scheduled at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on the 3rd of September.
