No Sri Lankans in aquatic sport at Asian Games

Sri Lanka will not participate in aquatic sport at the forthcoming Asian Games to be held from September 29 to October 10 in Pusan, South Korea.

Rifdy Famy, the Secretary of National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union of Sri Lanka (NAASU) said that the waterpolo team was after several trials. The 13-member waterpolo team selection was approved by the NAASU selectors headed by Brig. B. Munasinghe (Chairman Selection Committee NAASU). But the Sports Minister and the NOC to whom the names were submitted, did not give the green light.

The NAASU official added that Conrad Francis who represented Sri Lanka at the Sydney Olympics and the recently concluded Commonwealth Games will not swim at the Asian Games. Sri Lanka's ace woman diver Harini Jayasekera of Visakha Vidyalaya was not considered for selection. Both Conrad and Harini have failed to reach the set timings and the points for the Asian Games.
