New application form for Indian visas

A new visa application form will come into force from September 16, consequent to computerized visa services at the High Commission of India in Colombo.

Consequent to computerized visa service at the High Commission of India, Colombo, the Mission has revised the visa application form, which will come into force from September 16, 2002. The form is available free of cost from the Mission. It may be used for visa requests with effect from September 16.

For the benefit of visa-seekers, the form contains detailed guidelines and instructions, as regards various types of visas, like tourist visa, business visa, provisional student visa, student visa, employment visa, transit visa, research visa, conference seminar visa, journalist visa, entry visa and group visa, required supporting documents; and registration of foreigners with immigration authorities in India, particularly when foreigners are on long-term visas.

Visa-seekers are advised to affix their two latest colour photographs (stamp size 2.5x4 cms) at the space provided in the form. This is necessary as the Mission intends to scan the form with photograph, in due course, for quick data entry and print the photograph on visa stickers. Care may be exercised by applicants to ensure that their photographs on passports match with their appearance. This will help them to avoid the risk of deportation on arrival in India, due to dissimilarities in their appearance and their photographs on the passports. In such cases, where the present appearance of applicants does not match with their photographs on passports, it is advisable to get their latest photographs attested on passports by SL Immigration authorities before applying for visas at the Mission.

Currently, parents are requesting visas in respect of their children endorsed on their passports. The Mission would like to advise parents to obtain individual passports in respect of their child(ren) so that processing of requests for visas in respect of children is smooth.
